80th birthday celebration

On Saturday we headed down to a little town in Carbon County called Spring Glen to celebrate my grandma and grandpa's 80th birthday. Grandma turned 80 last month, Grandpa this. We are especially happy to celebrate 80 years of grandma's life since she has survived to bouts of breast cancer. Don't they look happy? In May they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
The house in Spring Glen has lots of memories for me. This was my great-grandparents house and I cherish the times spent there. I swung on this very swing many of times.


After we sang happy birthday we did a balloon launch. They had previously handed out a bunch of balloons to the kids. Owen had about five. I'm not exactly sure what happened because I was over taking pictures of my grandparents but I found Owen like this! I'm not sure if someone forced him to let go of his balloons or if he did it willingly but he was very unhappy about it! Ian lasted less than an hour and Adam sat with him in the tahoe while I mingled with family and friends...and he didn't complain about it at all. What a great hubby don't you think?

Matthais goes to camp

The 5th graders in our school district have an opportunity to go to camp for a week every summer.Matthais does so much for us and has a lot of responsibility at home so I thought it would be fun if he went. He's never been gone for more than a night or two so this should be interesting. I can already tell that the house is quieter...not as much fighting and teasing...but I already miss his helping hand. I rely on him a lot and he is my built-in babysitter. Two of his cousins that are his age are there with him. I hope he gets the break he deserves!

4th of July

This year was quite possibly the slowest 4th of July we've ever had. The day seemed to drag on forever! Maybe it was because we didn't have much planned like we have in years past. We started our day off with a trip to Urgent Care because Owen was up the all night the night before. I even had to make an emergency trip to Macey's at 4 am for Motrin. Turns out he had strep throat. That explains the 3 day fever! Adam went fishing and just worked on things around the house. I was too tired to do anything of signifigance and was pretty much bored all day. I grilled steaks for dinner and around 8 o'clock we headed to Lehi to watch the fireworks.



Yes, I know, we are so naughty, we brought Owen with strep throat to a family party...in our defense though, he fever had broke the night before and he had two doses of antibiotics in him! After we watched the Lehi fireworks we headed over to John Jay and Kinna's to light off some fireworks.





It was after midnight before we finally rolled into the driveway. Needless to say I am tired and I have a bunch of tired, grumpy kids today!

Balloon festival

Owen has always been entranced with hot air balloons so I thought it would be fun to go to the balloon festival. I had been a few times but Adam and the kids never had. We got all the kids up at 6:00 and headed down. Owen was excited and on the lookout for a train balloon.

Once he realized the balloons had fire he was officially freaked out and wouldn't let us put him down. It really was pretty cool to see them up close and to see so many in one place.




Alas, there was no train balloon but he seemed just as content with the Tony the Tiger and the piggy bank balloons.

We paid for it later with 4 very tired kids and 2 extremely tired parents but it was worth it.
