I need YOUR help!

Not that many people read this anymore but if you do, if you're out there, it's time to come out of the wood work and give me some advice.

The kids have been back in school for nearly a month now and I am still struggling to find a routine and get something accomplished during the day. You'd think after nearly 17 years of marriage and 14 years of motherhood I might have something figured out. Nope. I've tried lots of systems, flylady, motivated moms, and my favorite, the 15 minute timer. Right now nothing is getting me where I'd like to be and I, quite literally, walk in circles all day long. So, here is where I need some help. How do you get it done during the day? What is your system? What is your secret? And I know that we all struggle with this on one level or another but I've seen some of your houses and I struggle way more. :)

Help a girl out?

My house cleaning tip and I've done it for years. It works for me. When I'm cleaning my house I turn all the lights on in every room. When all the chores are completed in that room the light goes off. I'm a list maker. If I have errands to do that day I make a list and cross them off as they get done. I make a personal game of getting my "routine" done. So say I want to get all my chores done by noon so that I have time to do "my" things for a few hours before the kids get home from school. Then homework gets done, piano etc after school. I make my day a game and give myself a time frame that I want to get things accomplished in. Another habit I've gotten into is that we-meaning kids too, walk around the house before bedtime and pick up everything that is not in it's place and put it away. It makes your day go a lot smoother and less things to do when you're home alone-therefore more time for you. Hope this helps!!

You're funny. I'll tell you a couple tricks that I do that help me out. Every night I run the dishwasher no matter what - even if it's not full (although that rarely happens). If there are leftover dishes, I hand wash them. Then in the morning before the kids go to school they unload it (and I don't let them slack on this one). It's one way to get a fresh start on the dishes every day. Also, I make my kids pick up everything before they go to bed. If they don't, I get a laundry basket and put the things they left out (shoes, books, etc.) in it and leave it on the kitchen table. The next day they have to wash a window or a cupboard door for each item I picked up of theirs. I put my kids to work. Each of my kids are assigned to clean a bathroom each week. If they don't get it done during the week they do it on Saturday. Carter empties the garbages every Tuesday (before trash day), Cody vacuums 4 rooms every week. Caitlin & Ashlyn clean the toy room and dust. They have other chores too, but those are the main ones. We try to get piano practicing done before school.

Some weeks you just have to turn a blind eye because it's just not going to look good. When the kids clean, it doesn't always look that great, but I have come to terms with my house being less clean than it used to be.

Also, I exercise right after the kids go to school. If I get side tracked with other things, my exercising usually gets left out so I have to do right away.

You're doing better than you think you are. You're a great example to me. I miss seeing you all the time. We should go to lunch some time.
