Where do I find these coupons?

I get mine from the Sunday paper. There is also a packet that comes in the mail with the grocery ads on Tuesdays. With the coupons I think I only had to pay the tax!
My question is, how long have you been saving those particular coupons to get those deals? Were those several weeks/months of papers combined? And did you have to look online to find what stores were having sales on those products, then use the coupons?
I have never been a successful couponer, I guess I just don't get it.
